Juice Pulp Pasteuriser
A pasteuriser built for juice with pulp, using scraped surface or large-bore tubular exchangers where a standard plate unit would block within minutes.

Why plate exchangers fail on pulp
Plate gaps are 2-3 mm. Pulp above about 5 percent bridges those gaps and blocks the unit within minutes, and cleaning does not restore flow once fibres compact. Scraped surface or large-bore tubular designs are the only practical options.
Scraped surface versus large-bore tubular
Scraped surface handles the highest pulp and particulate loads but has rotating seals that need regular replacement. Large-bore tubular has no moving parts and suits 10-20 percent pulp. The choice follows pulp level.
Gentle handling preserves particles
A positive displacement pump rather than a centrifugal one keeps pulp particles intact. Centrifugal impellers shear fruit pieces and turn a visible-pulp product into a cloudy one.
Typical Applications
- Visible-pulp juice and nectar — Products that must show fruit pieces need scraped surface heating.
- Jam and fruit preparation — The same unit pasteurises fruit preparations for yoghurt dosing.
- Pulp recovery lines — Pasteurising recovered pulp before storage extends its usable window.

Frequently Asked Questions
How often do scraped surface seals need replacing?
Every 1,500-2,500 operating hours, which is the main maintenance cost of this design.
Can it handle whole fruit pieces?
Up to about 10 mm with the appropriate rotor clearance. Larger pieces need a different process such as ohmic heating.
What pump should feed it?
A positive displacement lobe or progressive cavity pump, sized to keep line velocity below 1.5 m/s.
