Reverse Osmosis Water Treatment System

A reverse osmosis system sized on peak hourly demand rather than daily volume, with pre-treatment that protects the membranes and recovery that keeps water cost down.

Key Specifications

Capacity1 - 50 m3 per hour permeate
Pre-treatmentMulti-media, activated carbon, 5 µm cartridge
RO configurationSingle or two pass, 99 percent rejection
Recovery65-75 percent depending on feed TDS
ControlPLC with conductivity and flow trending
AntiscalantDosing with ORP monitoring
OutletConductivity < 10 µS/cm on two-pass

Pre-treatment decides membrane life

Chlorine destroys polyamide membranes permanently, so activated carbon or bisulphite dosing is mandatory upstream. Turbidity and hardness cause scaling. Most premature membrane failures trace to inadequate pre-treatment, not to the membranes themselves.

Sizing on peak, not average

A beverage line draws water in bursts during CIP and shift start. Sizing the RO on daily volume produces a plant that cannot keep up at peak and needs a larger storage tank than the RO it saved.

Recovery and concentrate handling

Rejecting 30 percent of feed is normal, but that concentrate has to go somewhere. Recycling it to the front of the plant or using it for non-product duties cuts net water use substantially.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much water does it waste?

25-35 percent of feed becomes concentrate. With recycling, net use falls to 10-15 percent above permeate volume.

Do I need EDI?

Only if you need resistivity above 1 MΩ·cm, such as for boiler feed or certain formulations. Drinking water does not require it.

What maintenance is required?

Cartridge changes every 1-3 months, membrane cleaning every 6-12 months, and annual membrane replacement at 15-20 percent of the array.
