Spray Sterilisation Tunnel
A spray sterilisation tunnel that uses fine water sprays instead of full immersion, cutting water volume while keeping a uniform temperature profile.

Spray versus immersion
Immersion holds temperature extremely evenly but needs a large water volume and takes a long time to reach setpoint. Sprays use far less water and heat up quickly, at the cost of needing careful nozzle coverage so no package face is missed.
Nozzle coverage is the failure mode
A blocked nozzle creates a cold spot that shows up as spoilage weeks later. Nozzle inspection and flow monitoring, not temperature control, is the maintenance task that matters on a spray tunnel.
Heat recovery from the cooling zone
Water leaving the cooling zone is still warm and is used to pre-heat incoming packages, recovering up to 55 percent of heating energy.
Typical Applications
- Beverage plants with limited space — A spray tunnel is shorter than an immersion unit for the same residence time.
- Lines with variable throughput — Sprays allow fast temperature changes when the line stops or slows.
- PET and heat-set containers — Lower water mass makes it easier to hold a profile that heat-set PET can survive.

Frequently Asked Questions
How do I verify every package got the dose?
By temperature logging per zone plus periodic validation with data loggers travelling through the tunnel.
Can it replace a pasteuriser?
For microbiological reduction at higher temperature, yes. For a defined PU target on beer, a purpose-built pasteuriser with PU calculation is the right tool.
What is the maintenance interval for nozzles?
Inspect weekly, descale monthly, replace annually or when flow drops more than 10 percent.
