UHT Milk Processing Line

A UHT milk line built for ambient shelf life, where steriliser design, aseptic filling and CIP validation together decide whether the product reaches nine months.

Why tubular beats plate above a certain viscosity

Plate sterilisers are compact and recover heat well, but they foul quickly on high-protein milk and cannot handle viscosity above about 200 cP. Tubular units tolerate fouling longer and handle milk with added cream or stabiliser, which is why they dominate UHT milk lines.

The steriliser is only half of aseptic

Aseptic filling and the aseptic buffer between steriliser and filler decide whether the product stays sterile. A perfect steriliser feeding a filler that draws in air at the seam produces spoiled packs at the end of shelf life, not at the start, which is the worst failure mode.

CIP validation

Aseptic lines require documented CIP with temperature, flow and concentration records, plus periodic sterility trials. This is the part most often underestimated in project planning.

Frequently Asked Questions

What capacity should I start with?

5,000 L per hour is the common entry point for a regional dairy; below 2,000 L per hour the aseptic line cost per litre rises steeply.

Does UHT change the taste?

Some cooked note is unavoidable at 135-150 degrees C. Indirect tubular sterilisation with high heat recovery minimises it compared with direct steam injection.

What is the shelf life?

Six to nine months at ambient, provided the package is aseptic and undamaged.
